Kirkby Rescue update - new hutch arrival p173

Hunnybunny2007

Warren Veteran
Sorry this has been a long time coming, but I've had a few computer problems.

These are a few short videos of the rescue, there is SO much more work that needs doing, a lot of small old hutches have gone, and a lot of the larger ones are beyond repair.

Vid one, shows 4 beautiful girls, 2 have blue eyes, they are housed in the kennel block - on the left hand side are some of the hutches that volunteers have donated, and opposite them are some that need replacing, that aren't in use at the moment.

Some of the bunnies - the pairs are ready for rehoming, the singles are bucks waiting to be castrated

One of the hutches Celia wanted repairing on Saturday was in such a bad state, it fell apart:(

The videos don't show the whole of the rescue, but I just wanted you to have an idea of the enormity of the task.

If you would like to offer any of the rabbits a home please contact Celia direct on 01623753883

I would like to thank Justine (Orange) and Giantbunnymummy for their kind donations which will be put towards replacing the hutches. A new one is on order and is due to be delivered in a couple of weeks, and subject to Celias approval we are aiming to replace at least one a month.

Thats quite upsetting to see:( The poor dutchies with the green water bottle,It reminds me very much of nottingham small pet rescue,Where i ended up getting 2 rabbits and 4 pigs from.No wonder they need so much help,i didnt realise how bad it was:( Keep up the good work everyone

All the water bottles were changed on Saturday, and all the bunnies were given hay, and extra straw during the course of the day:D
You have to remember Celia runs the rescue single handed most of the time, and she's in her late 60's

None of them will work for me :( They all just say buffering and then don't do anything. Must be my internet connection.

How does she manage on her own:shock: Maybe she should cut down?

If you are shocked now, it was a lot worse before we started going back in September:( Before the ground was cleared to have the kennel block installed it was full of tiny old hutches, and yes she did have to resort to using them at times, but without Celia these rabbits would be not be alive, there conditions are still far from ideal, but they are now safe, warm and fed they are all vaccinated twice a year and she never turns an animal away.

Blimey, looks like everyone has got a big job on their hands there, well done for improving things. I run a guinea pig rescue and I know what it's like to take on more than you perhaps should, but at least they are fed and safe until new homes come along.

Can't imagine dealing with that many animals, let alone when in my 60's!

They also almost all have another rabbit for companionship.

The kennel block is fab :) Well done to the people who have donated all the thistle hall hutches etc :) The smaller hutches do look bad, but i guess its either they get used or god knows where the bunnies would end up  At least they have shelter/food/water there.

Carry on the good work guys :) xXx

Its sad to see, but i am so happy Celia is getting the help from all you guys. Keep up the very good work

Oh and there is some GORGEOUS bunnies   Espec the ones with the blue eyes, awwwh

I think shes probably a bit stuck in her ways:? she wouldnt let my friend have rabbits because she heard a young child in the back ground,Yet my friend has now adoped from Jill honeybunny

How can you cut down - we have said before, she lives in a very poor run down area which used to be a thriving mining community until the local colliery was closed.
People get a rabbit on a whim, then realise the work involved, they no longer want it, Celia either takes it in or it gets set free in the park or worse. A lot of the rabbits she gets have been passed around 3 or 4 families each one getting bored and then it finally ending up at the rescue.
Celia is worried, if anything happens to her, theres no one else willing to step in.

I've posted these videos so you can see what a struggle it is for Celia, and how much work is needed, and so everyone can see where the donations from the fundraising is going.

Celia has also had bunnies dumped on her doorstep and even thrown over her back fence in the past.

If I were a rabbit I'd rather be there until my forever home came along, and be housed somewhere dry and safe with proper food and water, than the alternative - forgotten in a small dirty hutch down the bottom of the garden.

I hope things continue to improve and people support her
