Speying Outdoor Female in Winter

Dear All

We adopted a female from the rescue centre last Summer. She was too young at the time to be speyed, and our rescue centre do not spey their females. She was adopted as a friend for Rambi after we had all manner of problems finding a female he could get on with.

We were planning on speying her in April, but today is very sunny for the first time in months and she thinks Spring is here. She is causing Rambi grief mounting him and chasing him. Can we get her speyed now, even though it is still freezing? They are balcony buns, so they live in a similar temp to a well-insulated shed, not as cold as outdoors but defo still outdoor buns.

Thanks for your advice

Emma

Its just for 24 hours or so after the GA that they are unable to regulate their temperature so if you can provide extra warmth for that period then perhaps it is ok. Why not ask your vets advice.

Can you keep her indoors overnight? As already said its the first 24hrs after GA that they have probs regulating their temp. She shouldn't lose her outdoor coat if its just one night.

Keeping her indoors wouldn't be a problem. I think our vet even keep them in overnight if I remember rightly. It is a good idea to ask him, will do.

Good to know the coat won't shed overnight.

Thanks for replying!
