  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snorting/grunting

Gizmo has started recently to make a snorting/grunting noise when eating and grooming herself.
She has recently finished a course of Panacur to fight the evil EC and we took her to the vets the other day because of a weeping eye.
The vet checked for teeth issues (as she had a dental for spurs a couple of months back) but gave the all clear on that. She is now on Baytril for a possible infection and has drops to clear up the eye.
She seems to also make a light snoring noise when breathing normally. This started before the weepy eye and there isn't any thick discharge (her tear ducts were flushed through and came out clear).

Any ideas are more than welcome!! Oh, she seems to be eating

Beebee does this when his snuffles are playing up.
Has your bun got any nasal discharge?? She may even have a cold??
Just a thought.Hope Bun improves.xx:wave:

Thank you - I can't see any sign of nasal discharge. If it is a cold - is there anything we can do, or does it just have to pass like a human cold?

Thanks a lot

I'm sorry but bunnies don't get colds.
It sounds very like some form of nasal block. Snuffles is a bacterial infection which is difficult to treat. Is your vet a good rabbit vet, specialising in rabbits & seeing a lot of them?
