Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poo colour

I was just wondering what the best colour for bunnies poos to be was?
Jimby occasionaly gets a really nice light brown colour, kind of sandy colour but more often than not they are medium brown.

It varies, depending on what you feed them.I have two buns, litttle girl "Cleo" 2 years old who is a total messy madam.I have to wash her bum at least once a week.,just the way her gut is.Big old boy "Rio" 5 years old, fed the same,no problems at all.:)

Alfie and bubbles always have golden brown poos when they've eaten lots of hay. If they've been free ranging in the garden a lot (and so eating more grass) then their poos are darker.

As long as the poos are quite big, rather than small and very hard, colour isn't so important. :)

a bun eating mroe fresh grass will have smaller poos than a bun who eats mroe hays this is normal but they should alwasy be quite fat and round poos never tiny and hard, hay coloured poos are golden and largest and alfalfa poos are tending to be darker....
if they have mucus on any of them then yo uhave a probelms remember bunyns also do caecotrophs(sp?) which are teh edible ones they often do these at night and eat straight from the bum if you see these lying around the place it generally means to omuch veg and a cut down is needed. x
