  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Sorry if this is in wrong section! I have three rabbits, two girls and one boy but i have no experience in nuetering boys as tobie was already done when i got him. Anyway my sister has just gotten a little male from a rescue, hes about 10 weeks. She was just wondering how old they have to be to get nuetered as shes heard of rabbits getting done at 14 weeks if they are fully developed although the rescue has told her this is very risky and they've had rabbits die getting the snip this young. She doesnt know what to do for the best as she wants to bond him with her little doe as soon as possible and before his harmones start kicking in! Thanks any advice welcome :)

I'd discuss it with the vet as different vets seem to have different views about how early they can be done. I'm assuming as he's from a rescue he's already been vacinated and health checked or else I'd discuss it with the vet when he goes for that appointment (what I've usually done). My two boys were done at about 20 weeks - sadly one of them passed away under anesthetic but I'm sure that was due to the fact that he was a very stressy bun and the runt of the litter rather than the age at which he was neutered.

Go with a vet that has experience of neutering rabbits regularly and that you feel confident with and take their advice I guess is what I'm saying. Hope the op & future bond go well.
