Don't know why he doesn't like us.

*lily*

Wise Old Thumper
Louie really doesn't like us and I really don't know why :(

When I walk into the room where he is, I always talk to him so he doesn't get spooked but it makes no difference, he always runs away from me.

He was friendlier when we first got him but has just got worse and worse as time goes on. He will run round my feet sometimes but wont even come over to me when I sit on the floor, I really don't know what to do to make him friendlier.

I hate to think that he is unhappy :(

Could he be deaf/blind? Sorry I have no advise....I sometimes have this problem with Roobs, but tell her I'm about to enter the room, which has stopped the spooking.

Is he friendly normally? Probably a silly question...but has someone trodden on him...might make him wary.

He has never been friendly but then again he has never been aggressive either just really jumpy. He's not shy around the cat though, he loves her!

No, no one has trodden on him or anything like that.

He certainly isn't deaf as he lifts his head up and twitches his ears if I call his name.

I don't know what the problem is :(

I felt like this with Dill. We've had him nearly a year & though he is no where near as friendly as B,he is getting much better.Still runs in other direction but will sit for a stroke occasionally.Ive realised its not that he doesn't like us,its just that he doesn't feel the need to be petted all the time like B does. What has changed the most over the year,is my love for him.I love him so much.:D
Maybe its a harlequin thing!

Awwwwww

Yes, Louie will sit and be stroked if I can get to him before he legs it. He seems to enjoy it too, closes his eyes and goes all snuggly. I suppose they are all different :?

We have a few rabbits who like our company but wouldn't want to be a lap bunny. Blue is human obsessed constantly licking and looking for noe rubs and constantly wants to be on our laps, wereas the others would rather be off in another room.

Has he been neautered one of my nans males use to run round her in circles and most of us until he went to have his plums off.

Has he had his eye checked out?

:)

Did Louie come from a rescue?Imputting Dills awkwardness down to the fact he probably wasn't socialised with much as a baby & also the terrible wounds he had due to fights is bound to affect his personality.

Yes, he is neutered and no he hasn't had his eyes checked.

No, he wasn't a rescue, I impulse bought him from Pets at Home when he was 8 weeks old.

time, patience and food bribary is the key :) honey is finally getting to the point after 2 years that she'll sit and have a nose rub and wont automatically leg it when someone she doesn't know enters the room. I always find little pellet rewards when they come to you or have been picked up or stroked helps. Panda who hated humans to begin with will now eat from my hand and will always come and say hello - although he wont tolerate strokes or being picked up, thats taken about a year :)

I've tried offering him food from my hands but he wont take it. Even corriander which he loves!

Alvin was just like that.. i think fear made him ok at first but as time went on and he got his confidence his human hating took shape. :( some bunnies just dont like humans much ill guess... getting pearl has taught alvin im not a big monster and he is loads more friendly but he is almost 3 now

i read (in my quest to find out why my bunny hated me) that if babies are not handled before the age of 5 weeks they will never truely trust the human, makes sense because pearl is such a snuggle bun and i think she was handled early on. ive also found this is the same as my chippies.. bud came from a customer of pets at home rather than other sources and hes well friendly but stella is pretty human hating.

dont think louie is unhappy hun, your just not his idea of the perfect companion... human hating bunnies are fun tho :love:

i think he's just a rabbit. they like other rabbits. they have plans of their own, in which we appear as facilitators (more commonly termed 'slaves'). i don't think he dislikes you, i think he just wants to do rabbit things. keep going with the treats. its heartwarming when they run towards you, even if you know its because you smell of fenugreek.:(;)

I will just keep perservering. I just want him to be happy and I don't know if he is at the minute :(

I know how you feel. I feel the same way about Eddison. He grunts and runs away from me when I enter a room, and only comes over to check me out after I sit in his cage for 5-10 minutes. It seems that he hates when I try to pet him, but if I kind of sneak up on him, he settles down and starts grinding his teeth.

However, he got along great with Milo when they were first bonded. I think he's just more connected to other bunnies than humans, but I keep trying.

And oddly enough, I found he likes it when I *don't* talk to him. If I stay quiet when I'm around him, he's much more likely to come over and hang out with me. I suppose being quiet is being more bunny-like!

Hang in there, and look for other signs of happiness! Does he ever binky? Does he ever flop out? Is he active and curious about other things?

Just keep at it! (And raisins always bring Eddison over to me. ;) )

Yes, he does loads of binkies, flops out regularly (makes a right thud when he does!) and is into everything :D

They are an odd species!

Then he's one happy bunny! Just not a people-oriented one! :D:D

Really, don't worry about his happiness....you do everything to make him happy and he definitely sounds like a happy bunster!
