yes definatly write a plite letter,
say somthign like,
dear practise owner,
I am writing to let you know about a recent visitI had to your vets, i was concerened about teh lack of basic rabbit knowledge the vet__ms vet____ i saw had. she informed me that my rabbits should not be fed pellets and only a small amount of hay but surely with rabbits needing 85% of their diet to be hay due to the fibre which keeps their guts and teeth in good order this is wrong the pellets i feed are over 18%fibre and are only given in small quantitys and i feed hay unlimited, the vet also suggested that i feed them more veg such as broccoli now i know variety of veg is good for vitamins and yes mine do enjoy a tiny peice of broccoli now and again but it does have the obvious side affect of gassey build up in some buns which im sure you know can lead to bloat or stasis (very dangerous for bunnies)
i was also suprised by the horror and disgust that i have had my female rabbits spayed i dont understand this is now normally considered a must if not being bred from as 85% of females unspayed over age 3years get uternine cancer and die as its usually too late once it has spread to other organs by time signs are noticed, and as for the anestetic risks while i apprichiate for any small animal it is slightly higher than for dogs and cats with the right care before and after(including allowing them to eat right up until the op, using Isoflurane the roccomended anestetic for rabbits, pain relief before and after surgery , preventative antibiotics and of course continued pain relief and after care this really should not be a risky operation.
I do understand rabbits are classed as exotics but i have to say i am now looking else where for a good rabbit savvy vet as i know it will make the difference if a life or death situation occours with my rabbits, but i firstly wanted to highlight the lack of knowledge of your vet and explain wh yi will not be returning to your practise as it may be costly to other rabbits within their care,
kindest regards
