Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

question about sneezing

Young Bun
Hi, i know a lot of threads are out there about sneezing/snuffles, but my bunny tommy is sneezing with no discharge or other symptoms. i took him to the vet and she prescribed baytril for 2 weeks. its been 1 week exactly and the sneezing seems to be a little more than before. i read in other threads that the baytril doesnt always work...since its been a week does this probobly indicte that it wont work, or is there still a good chance it will work by the end of 2 weeks? also, my other rabbit don juan has mites (this is like the 5th time) and i was wondering if i can just use the shampoo or do i need to take him into the vet for the injection? it seems like since my beloved bun michelle passed my other two bunnies are popping up with all these problems. im so stressed right now!!

respiratory problems in rabbits can often require a prolonged course of antibiotics and if not treated can become serious. i would take him back for a longer course of antibiotics.

if mites are a problem and the shampoo just isnt clearing it (shampoo just treats the lice on the animal at the time....not the eggs or those in the bedding/hutch etc) you could try a 'spot on' type treatments specifically for rabbits or a course of ivermectin injections would be available via your vet
