  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Should I continue Antibiotics or not?

 Jaki got Baytril a few nights ago for what the vet said was a UTI, she is alot better now and seems back to normal, should I keep giving her the medicine or just stop it?
The reason I ask is before she took it with no dramas but now she is fighting back and stressing out and I don;t want to put her through unneccesary stress.

think some buns get more stroppy as they start to feel better , like ' i don't need this anymore mummy, unhand me at once!'

i think it is important to finish the prescribed course though. :)

Aw no she will be gutted!! Thanks for the advice, thought it would be a yes but wasn't to sure x

Baytril does taste gross (yes, I have ) so you could try mixing the dose with a bit of Apple Juice. Another favorite with my lot is the fruit flavoured still water, something like the Apple and Raspberry one :)

 You havent!!! Lol you do make me laugh Jane.
The vet did mention something about putting it in a bit of ribena, thought she was mental lol. Only a few days to go I think, i'll need to buy some apple juice, how about apple cider? Lol x

I think Jack'll need to stay off the alcohol for now !!

I'm a fully paid up member of the Baytril tasters club too and yes, it is disgusting. I just felt the need to find out what all the screwed up faces were about. I keep asking my vet to lobby the company to produce a banana or carrot flavoured version.:)

I always give meds with 100 % pineapple juice. Goes down very nicely and they even lick their lips!

Yep it tastes disgusting. I had to taste it once as I took out a syringe of zantac and a syringe of baytril and then couldn't remember which was which so tried what i thought was the zantac, except it wasn't :(

I always add it to ribena:)

If you only give a few days of antibiotics rather than a full course it is possible for them to develop an antibioic resistence so it is always important to finish the whole course
