Useless vet or just high hopes?

i took my adopted rabbit to the pdsa today as she has a hard lump under her nipple where he told me there was a smaller lump towards her bottom. He told me "its probably cancer or mammary tumors but theres nothing i can do you just have to wait until she goes off her food and water, thats when shell be soon to die" words cannot describe how i was feeling in this 3 minute meeting but what else could i do? i had read up on the internet about what it could be and had come to the same conclusion as the vet.I thought i was ready for him to tell me it was cancer, but with no bloods taken no further investigating i wasnt happy and sobbed all the way home. In my research id read how people with the same problems with their rabbit had undergone surgery to by spayed at the same time of removing the tumors. I feel like maybe i should just fork out for a proper vet in the hope they can actualy help and will give a toss. Or am i just in denial that theres nothing that can be done and have high hopes that there is someway i can help smudge??:censored:

I would find a good rabbit vet and go for a second opinion. Where abouts are you? Maybe someone can recommend a bunny savvy vet in your area.

i would definatly get a second opinion, make sure its a rabbit reccomended vet it does sound like mamery cancer but if the rabbit is otherwise helathy i dont seee why it couldnt be spayed and or have the tumour removed the problem is if the tumours have spread to the organs causign great pain and distress as then it may be inoperable, i would see another rabbit savvy vet i can give yo uthe telephone numnber of my rabbit savvy vet (prob nowhere near you) but at elast you could ask some advise and he maybe knows of someone in your area who specialises in rabbit medicine (he gives lectures about it countrywide) alternativly post where you are and im sure others will post links to their rabbit savvy vets xx

I think with the charitable funded treatment (PDSA/RSPCA/Blue Cross) there will be restrictions on what treatment options are offered. For example my local RSPCA Hospital will not offer Dentals. All they will do is PTS

I have had a Doe with Breast Cancer and she had a total mastectomy. Thankfully the cancer had not spread to other organs and she made a good recovery.
Could you afford a second opinion from a non charity funded Vet ?

I'd get a second opinion for sure, it at least need proper investigation. It could be cysts or something else entirely! Where are you, perhaps someone can recommend a good vet :)

We have a little bunny who had uterine cancer that had spread to her mammary glands. She had a major op and was still told that she would only have a life expectancy of 6 months, but that was 18months ago :D
