  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

why i dont have my rabbits sprayed is because i lost five rabbits on the operating table and i am abit scared of getting my other rabbits sprayed
am i right to be caused to worry

I think you seriously need to change vets, there is no reason why rabbit anaesthesia shouldnt be safe in the hands of a competent vet.

Ditto Daisy.

I have had 6 buns in my life, all desexed, none of them missed a beat during or following the ops.

Our vet is fab.

Get a new vet.

Where the buns that died related? It's possible they had some unknown heart defect - that caused death during GA. You can get bloods done to check for things like this pre-spay

Also check how competent your vet is with rabbits. I have lost one bun during spay (a foster), but I've had loads done with no issues.

none lost here, death during a neuter is rare, and normaly linked to a heart or brain problem, for you to lose 5 really raises suspitions to be honest

they (the vets) said it was heart defects
which is why i am right to worrying about my other rabbits which are related to the five which died :)
i know its stupid to worry
