Vet 1: Cheap and cheerful, great with general stuff but stumped with Cherry's teeth. Often don't charge for a consult, if medication is required, especially when we are in for about 5 minutes.

Vet 2: Expensive, but all of the vets there are very knowledgable about rabbits. However, cost £40 for them to confirm what I already know with Frankie, and give medicine :?, yet still in and out in about 5 minutes.

In dire Staits at the minute, and looking to cut back in all areas, but the biggest cost over the past few months after gas and elec, is vet bills.

I need to get my self in the black, for Frankies sake more than any other. He has had one dental and I want to make sure I can continue to care for him and not have to give him up like I have Cherry. I really did think that insurance covered dentals  Although when I got them, both neither were considered dental buns. Sai la vei

Personally I would go for the second choice, as with the cheaper option you could well end up spending more on incorrect diagnoses. I guess there is a reason why they are cheaper ....i.e. the vets are possibly not of the highest calibre ? Of coruse, you could just take Cherry to the better vet for 'teeth' and use Vet 1 for the other assorted issues.

I would use the more expensive one for any real illness but might use the cheap one for vaccinations if they still give them correctly.

Yes - I have not voted as i would go to the cheaper vet for most stuff but take her to the expert dearer vet for teeth problems.

It's important to see an experienced vet for a dental examination as some can't seem to manage to check the back teeth(I know its difficult).

Ask on here if anyone can recommend you a good "bunny dentist" near you- you can phone to ask prices and may be cheaper than your expert vet.

I don't see it any different than a human wanting to see a specialist. You don't have to say to Vet 2 that you already have Vet1 but if you do want to say then I don't see how Vet 2 would be offended if you say you have come to him?her as you understand they are a specialist/expert in rabbit dentistry.

Vet 1 does not need to know you have had your rabbits teeth treated /diagnosed at vet2.- sue

Ah- I see she's going to Rainbow Rabbits Retirement home- I'm sure she will get the right vet treatment from there

I wouldn't be happy going to a vet I didn't trust if there was a problem....as others have said maybe continue using both although I'd be happier with the 2nd vet.

I fully understand what you mean about dental bills though.

Definitely Vet 2.

I would say my vet is on the more expensive side, but she is brilliant with Herbie's dental problems and very knowledgeable. I would never risk changing for a cheaper option.

This is more or less what I'm doing. The vets my two are registered with are very nice people and handily close but they admit themselves that they arent rabbit experts. It was they who recommended me to the other vets who diagnosed and are treating Muppet's spondylosis. I'm happy to stay registered with them but will ask them to refer me to Vet2 for anything beyond the normal.

As I understand it, you DO have to tell Vet1 about any treatment that Vet2 does (assuming you're staying with them). For example, if I go to my emergency vets (a 3rd practice) I know they fax my registered vet with the details. And Vet2 has been keeping my registered vets informed of Muppet's treatment. And the acupuncture vet (Vet4...) told me to tell my registered vet that I was taking him there even though it's Vet2 that's treating him (and I'd already discussed it with him anyway).

If anyone else is confused about the number of vets I have for two rabbits, you arent the only ones!!!  But they all link back to the registered vet (Vet1)

id rather pay more and get a vet thats great with rabbits than pay less and get a vet that just about gets it right, sometimes.

If my previous vet (who i beleived was a proper exotics vet ) had not of left then Pearl would most certainly be dead by now, a pm would reveal a grossly enlarged heart and i would in a flash of changed vets.

thankfully he did leave and i now have a vet great with rabbits and she managed to give me a little while longer with my angel.. thats worth more than anything, especially money

I would rather pay more and get the better treatment.
Unfortunately no one can guarentee a rabbit isn't going to be a dental bun as I have had rabbits come in and teeth are fine then a few weeks down the line they get a spur or something, I suppose it is called the joy of rabbits:D and we are lucky on here as we know how much bunnies can cost if something goes wrong and we budget for that when we take them on:)
