  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Soggy Cecotropes

Hi everyone, yesterday I noticed my 8mth old bunny had soggy cecotrope in her hutch, there's only a couple. I checked her botty and it was clean. My question is, could this be because she is a little over weight and is unble to eat them or could this be something more serious. she is a very round mini lop, is full of life and with a massive appitete!! I've cut her down on treats and all she has now is hay, hay hay along with a small amout of Oxbow T pellets. Is there anything else i can do as I really don't want her uncomfortable in any way. She has free use of hutch and run (6' x 3') all day every day and chases her friend around most of that time  Thanks guys

I'd feed just hay and water with an added probiotic for 24 hours as long as she is not passing any actual diarrhoea and she is well in every other way. Hopefully that will allow things to return to normal.

If the problem persists or recurs I'd get her checked over by your Vet.
