Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Trimming Nails

My fiance and I attempted to trim Jack's nail's at the weekend, we managed pretty well and she sat brilliantly for it. I was wondering how far down is it ok to cut? The reason I ask this is I feel a wee bit more could be took off but we were a bit wary of hurting her or cutting it to far.

Thanks in advance xx

No Problem :)

You just have to remember when trimming nails to look for the quick which is a vein that runs along the middle of the nail, if you can't see it shine a torch behind the nail and you should see it, don't cut into the quick and always cut smoothly so you don't shatter the nail.

I notice that you have a black rex. You may find it difficult to see the quick on their nails and with most bunnies I would say cut to the edge of their fur.....however with rexes you can't really do that either, for you I think it will probably be a bit of trial and error.

We caught the very tip of the vein the first time we did Raisin and he bled a little bit, but still loved us afterwards and we have no problem picking him up and doing his nails regularly.

Rum however, is a little moo.
