like i have said before, respiratory infections are awful once they get a hold. you really need a rabbit vet. please trust me, don't see any old vet, it has to be a proper one. it needs dealing with properly. i saw a normal vet when mine got it, they were given meds but i didn't know they were just masking the problem, not actually treating it. then it would flare up again and now it is hard to get under control. matt has been on meds a year nearly, he has lots of meds a day and a nebuliser. had i gone to a proper vet in the first place, it wouldn't have got this far. it may not happen to your bun and you may be lucky, but i wouldn't take that chance. once the mucus starts to build up deep in the spores of the nose, it is hard to get rid of. i have said it before and i can say it a million times, but it is your choice. i just have been there and i really would say see a rabbit vet. x

What antibiotics is she on?

Respiratory infections usually take weeks (if not months) to clear up, and often have a nasty habit of returning.

this is so true. if they are not dealt with properly in the first instance then it gets harder and harder to treat. the costs are massive aswell once it gets a hold. a rabbit vet will know how to treat effectively from the start. other vets are not trained in rabbits and this kind of thing.

I am in total agreement with Biscandmatt1 & Abbeymarysmokey.

Rabbits do not get colds like us. They get bacterial infections which are difficult to treat, & are sometimes life threatening for several reasons.

An ordinary vet has very little training in treating rabbits, so you need to find a vet who has had further training to deal with the problem "exotics trained". We may be able to help you to find a good vet if you post for one & state the area where you live eg nearest big town, in "rabbit chat".

It is essential that your princess gets the right treatment early, to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Everything crossed for you both.

shes on baytrill not a great improvment but she is eating alot better. i will look at taking her to a proper vet as i want her to have the best care possible xx

It's good that she's eating a bit better. :D
I'm so sorry for you both, that little princess should have this illness.

The sort of treatment I would expect, in this situation is ab's by mouth, & a nebulizer (it's cheaper to buy one) with ab's by nebulizer, drugs to thin the mucus & depending on age, drugs to reduce soft tissue swelling.
Many rabbit vets would start with a minimum of 6 weeks treatment.

I'm sorry it's tough reading. Matt was very poorly indeed, & had snuffles treated with repeated courses of Baytril for quite a long time, until a top rabbit vet came to the rescue. It's been a long hard struggle, but we seem to be winning at last.

as judy has said, bisc and matt both had short courses of baytril given and this went on for a while. it just masked the problem and then the infection got worse and worse until it didn't mask it anymore. then we went to the rabbit vet and he said he never uses baytril, and that a minimum 6 weeks treatment is what he would do in the first signs of an uri. the difference between normal vets and a specialist rabbit vet has made all the difference. as i have said, i made the mistake of not going to a proper vet first and we have had such a hard time getting matt stable. i know every case is different but it has been awful and i wouldn't want your bun, or you, to go through it all when it may be controlled straight away. good luck xx
