Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

sneezing for a couple of weeks

Hi all,

We're taking Noel to the vet tomorrow to have his nails clipped and am going to mention him sneezing - we've had him just under 2 weeks and he sneezes a lot Am worried about him.

What should vet do to see if it's an infection? I don't want to be fobbed off with him saying it's an allergy in case it isn't.

He seems to drink quite a lot, although I don't know how much is normal anyway I suppose. I guess he has about a quarter of a drinks bottle a day, if not more.

Thank you

x

Does he have any mucus around or coming out of his nose?
Does his nose feel wet to touch?
Are his eyes clear and shiny?
No discharge coming from his eyes?

No mucus or wet nose. His eyes are bright and clear - no discharge. He seems absoloutely fine but am worried about the sneezing.

The vet will check for all of the things I asked and also have a listen to his lungs to check they are clear.
Is bun wheezing at all?
Are you at the begining/end of a bag of hay?
Are you using dust extracted hay?
Do you burn scented candles or insence around bun?

Did the vet check your rabbits teeth? My rabbit just had dental surgery because his teeth were growing into his sinuses, this was seen on a head xray. My rabbit was sneezing his head off before we knew what it was! His eyes were clear and his nose was dry for a while before things got worse and the teeth were removed. If your bun keeps sneezing maybe check the teeth if you haven't already :)
