Reply to the letter i sent to our vets re Desmond!!!!

We took the letter re the appaling treatment Desmond recieved which we believe lead to his passing ::cry: to our vets at the end of Dec. Today we heard back.

The owner of the vets practice (a vet himself) called me. He stated that he was very sorry to hear that we lost Desmond and that he was taking this case very seriously. The plan at the moment is that he has to get statements from all of his vets that were involved in Desmonds care, speak to GWR for their opinion and the treatment they provided Desmond with and then speak to a seperate vets for their opinion in the care Desmond recieved. After doing all this he will call me back.

When we meet with them we need to have objectives from our point of view. I am thinking that basically we want them to ensure this never happens again and i thought i may say that i would like one of their vets to attend a course on rabbits? Does anyone know any that i could suggest? I am also not paying their vets bills. Can anyone think of anything that would benefit another bunny from never having to go through this? I know nothing we do will get our little man back :cry: but i dont want anyone else having to go through this?

Well done you for standing up for all bunnies. It must be really tough for you to go through. I hope that they come back with something sensible and not just fob you off by saying that everyone did as they should when you know that more could have been done.

I dont know about any courses but I just wanted to give you our support

Well done for following this up with them. At the very least it sounds like they are doing a thorough investigation. I know it won't bring Desmond back but it will hopefully make the vets concerned sit up and notice that bunnies need specialist attention.

You should ask them what they intend to do to improve bunny knowledge with thier vets in the future to ensure that their clients can trust their vets.

I hope you get a satisfactory explanation and plan as to how they will improve bunny care.

i hope that you get a more satisafctory result than we did years back with the pdsa....dont expect miracles hun im sorry to say theyre very good at watching each others backs..same as doctors nurses and dentists etc......you take it up with them all.
no im noit being nasty but ive been there ok and i also know how heartbreaking it can be to not get a decent result if you were so hoping to get one and deseving to get one.

but you will have more chance than i ddi as it was the pdsa.

its something to think positiviley about.

you could suggest the vet goes to a few seminars or soemthing at least or go to bristol univeristy to work under the rabbit clinic there for a few weeks!!!

i am keeping fingers crossed things go well..desmonds death wasnt in vain..itll help more folks relaise they cant always trust vets judegemnt and never be afraid to ask questions and to question their judgement.

be brave...you have all of our support.
i was searching my photos and i came across the ones keri-ann had sent me for rehoming desmond....:(

he had a great life with you and lola.

hugs

Theres the Rabbit only referral place at Bristol Uni.
Not enough vets know about bunnies...or ferrets for that matter.....
Or other exotics.
You go girl!! and best of luck.xx

rabbit knowledge

So many vets don't know enough about rabbits - well done for helping them to focus on developing their practice in this way
