apple tree sticks - do they need washing?

Hi all,

We picked an apple twig today from our apple tree. Is it ok to give it straight to Noel or does it need to be washed? It has lots of green stuff growing on it.

I just feed them straight from the tree, but if you have used any chemicals on the tree it would be better to wash them thoroughly or not use them.
