today we are bonding a threesome (we hope!!)

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Teasal (male 8 years housebun) and Robina (female c3 years old housebun weighing in at a hefty 3.4 kilos:shock: - she has a weight problem) already a pair, are going to be joined by Thistle (c7 years old nethie).

Thistle has been spurned by her supposed new boyfriend (Hawthorn) and has had a very difficult last 3 years. She was in rescue and came to us as a 'final' partner for our little elderly Sweet Pea. He passed on 6 months ago after spending the final winter indoors with her. She then went outside and after a very difficult time being very picky and thoroughly beating up two prospective boyfreinds - she then bonded with Quickthorn -who sadly died very suddenly just a couple of months later. We then got Hawthorn who disliked her and ignored her (he is a sweetie - but I guess she is just 'difficult'). Thistle has always had lung problems which we discovered last year are severe with very little functioning lung due probably to a pvs history before rescue/adoption. Now she has developed tooth and jaw problems as well and really HAS to come inside.

So we have taken her from Hawthorn (she seems much relieved - he honestly doesn't seem to have noticed - he always totally ignored her) and are trying to bond her with Teasal and Robinia as a permanent indoor bun.

The problem is that we have NO neutral ground to do it on. All bedrooms are taken by other buns and Teasal has always had full free range of the downstairs and patio (except for Parsley's area - laughingly known as 'Twigs' office':roll:).

We did try the shed briefly but Teasal who usually spends his days on the dining room chairs and his eves in front of the fire in the living room, made his feelings well and truly felt at being 'relegated' to a shed. He just sat and stared at us with a fixed look of dismay and disgust until we let him out again:shock:. Robinia chased Thistle a bit but then settled down the other end of the shed and ignored her.

So we let them all out on the patio which Thistle enjoyed despite getting a bit chased - but this evening will be the testing time when they are all in.

I know its breaking all the rules of bonding to do it this way - but Teasal has bonded before (3 times) SO easily. He just lays there and looks gorgeous and the females swoon. Its Robinia we are concerned about. OH is going to spend the night with them constantly grooming and holding them (yes - I know this breaks all the rules as well - but this is how we always bond - and have done it a lot of times - they all know our smells and associate it with good things so it seems to work -except with buns that are new to us when we do it the 'normal' way.).

This is Thistle's last chance really - as she HAS to be an indoor bun from now on and all the other current 'bedroom' pairs will be heading back outside come spring.

So wish us good luck - and apologies for long post!
