Hi Guys,

I have been having sneezing fits since last may now and after ruling everything out, it turns out im illergic to my bun :(
It's been really hard finding the cause and for a while they were saying it was dust.
I had a sneaky suspicion it was bunny, but really didnt want it to be, as you can imagine.
The doctor said my symptoms shouldn't get worse than they are now so at least thats something.
I feel like I have a cold 24/7 and sneeze all day long. :(

Awwww no, that's not good :(

Is your bun a house bun or an outside bun? I'm sure there must be some ways of minimising the allergy so that you can still live with your buns but not feel like you have a constant cold:(

Did they give you any advice at all?

You can get allergy tablets from the pound shop, it will cost you £52 a year if you took a tablet every day, but trust me it's worth it. I'm badly allergic too, if I have fur on my clothes and it irritates me too much I just change and it stops.

anti histameans (typo) would they not work

Yeah I take these:D:D

Make sure you get dust free hay, & used wood based cat litter - better than shavings:D

I have 11 buns, & 2 horses & I'm allergic too:D I take anti-histamines when I'm at my worst & that clears me up after week or so:D

sorry to hear that:( i have a horrible feeling my current breathing problems aren't helped by my house rabbits (hayfever seems to have turned into asthmatic probs too) but i'll try whatever i can to keep it at bay - couldn't bear putting my buns outside:(

has your doc prescribed something?

I am allergic to my two cats (bunnies outside) and I have to just deal with having symptoms of a cold all year round (cant take too many antihistamines as they dry me out too much).

Just have to suffer..

i sneeze after ive leaned over pearl to give her drugs.. and the hay stes mom sent me has so much dust in it

My bun is a permanent house bunny.
It's not so bad right now although the doctor advised anti hystamines too.
It isn't the end of the world, I can live with it.
She is a lionhead and is pretty furry but I try not to pick her up as it stresses her out so I dont get her fur on me too much.
It is a shame but I love her soooo much I'm prepared to live with it. When I stroke her, because I get her fur all over my hands, I just make sure I rub it off before I go touching my face.

I always use dust free hay anyway for my bun. And I never use shavings either.

You can get cheap antihistamines if you look around - they're exactly the same as the branded ones but much cheaper! Look in superdrug, they have a really cheap brand with 14 tablets in a packet and they're often buy one get one free so work out less than £2 a month - or go to a chemist and ask them how much their unbranded packs of hay fever tablets are. For maximum effect you do need to take them every day though and not just when you're feeling bad, as they 'build up' to a more effective and consistent level after about a week.

Also, is it definitely her and not the hay you're allergic to? The dust and pollen from the hay will be on her fur too. If it is definitely her, you can get some stuff called petal cleanse which is supposed to help with pet allergies - you wipe it over the animal once a week and it reduces the level of allergens. Search for it on google and I'm sure you'll find it - I think I've seen it on amazon.

Yeah it is deffinately her.. I dont feel so bad once im outside and away from her for a few hours yet when i take her with me (my friend has a bunny and they socialise in neutral ground a few times a week) I still feel off.
It has bugged me for ages as I have had her over a year and a half but it only started in may.
Now I know what it is I feel better plus if im a little more careful with her fur on me its easier.

I've always dreaded having an allergic reaction to my animals... must be a nightmare. Just thought I'd mention that Wilkinsons (I lurrrvvee this shop, lol!) sells their own cheap brand of antihistamines - I used these during the summer when my eczema was really bad and they worked really well! :) x
