Glue on rabbit toys?

You know some rabbit toys have hay glued onto them, like those short cardboard tunnels? Does anyone know what substance the glue actually is? It must be safe for buns to eat! I'm making a hidey house for my boys for Christmas, and thought about giving it a hay roof (like thatch!). Anyone know what I could use to attach it?

Not sure what they use, but you could stitch it on with sisal or similar edible string.
