Anyone have experience of Intervertebral Disk Disease, or Spinal Surgery?

Gosh,
Typical of my rabbits, Nibbler has really outdone himself this time. He has had rear leg weakness for about a week and went for Xrays today and they've diagnosed Intervertebral Disk Disease but have never come across it in a rabbit before.

They're sending the xrays off for an orthopaedics experts opinion incase they've missed anything and also to see what the next step is for treatment. So I'm madly searching for any info I can find on this, its causes, and most important its treatment, as the vet mentioned surgery on cats and dogs but would send us to an exotics specialist if it came to that.

Has anyone come across this before?

Thought I would just update this... We got some information through from the orthopedics expert. Basically he doesn't recommend surgery at all - too many risks and not a massive chance of success - but he has also suggested that it could be a form of spondylosis, so has recommended a course of antibiotics to see if he improves on that.

To be honest he has actually improved the last few days - on just metacam and Panacur - he no longer drags his feet, but you can see he is still wobbly. He has been on cage rest too and I'm sure he is improving.

Anyway - wish me luck with all his meds! I've never had to medicate this bunny before and he is a wriggler! Even with a sore back :?

So glad he is improving:D I am still convinced it has got something to do with him being thrown out of a tree by his previous owners. I would rather attempt to give Nibbler medicine than Maddie anyday:lol::lol::lol:.

Really hope he gets through it, he is just jealous of all the attention Mads as had with her teeth
