Urine Scald help please.

Kermit

Wise Old Thumper
Guys, my Inca is having a bit of trouble right now with Urine Scald.

She is deformed at her private parts, meaning that she scalds herself, but recently it seems to be getting worse.

She is on baytril at the moment, im cleaning her twice a day with diluted hibitane and applying barrier cream, but she just seems to be getting worse.

Is there anything else anyone can recommend? My vets have basically given me the baytril and creams, but these just dont seem to be helping her that much right now.

I will take her back to the vets, but i am hoping that i can go armed with some suggestions of what i want done next.

Please help :cry::cry:

Is hibitane the same as hibiscrub? I used this when one of mine had it (very diluted) and then some sudocrem.

I hope she is OK.

Poor girl

Is she actually leaking urine or is the scald caused because the 'deformity' means that she wees on her legs ?

Has she had any diagnostics to assess the extent of the 'structural' problem and can you explain what the deformity is if possible ?

Or poor Inca:(. She was doing so well. Try sudacrem for a few days and then go back to the fuciderm. You are doing everything right her:D

I think she actually pees on her legs because of how her genitals are shaped, she is MEGA wet at times.

She hasnt had any tests etc at the vets to see the extent, as we thought that she was doing well with the treatment she was on, but she just seems to be getting worse now, so i think she will have to get referred to the exotics specialist.

Its really hard to explain what she is like, she has no tail, and is a strange shape at the back, as if her tail bone is under her skin slightly and presses on her genitals.

Just had a thought, ive only recently stated using the hibitane this week, do you think i could be making her sorer with this? Should i switch to cooled boiled salt water for a few days and see how she gets on with that??

I have several Rabbits who react badly to Hibiscrub which is basically the same as Hibitane. I think it's very possible that it is aggrevating her skin even more.

Personally I would stop using it and just bathe her with cooled boied water, no salt. Then I'd apply some Aloe Vera

then use Vaseline as a barrier.

Of course this advice is just my opinion, ie unqualified :)

Try not using the hibiscrub that may well be irritating her. I would say she is wee'ing on her legs due to her deformity also. I will have a word with Caroline my vet on Tuesday and see if she can suggest anything for her if you want.

That is interesting about hibiscrub (mine was very diluted). I haven't used it for a while but if need to again will try the plain water and aloe vera :D

most of the time you don't get problems but it is only like us humans reacting to something.

Inca will be fine she is in good hands. She as been through so much that she won't give up on her forever home thats for sure.

Thanks for the help.

I never used the hibitane today, just bathed her with cooled water and used sudocream and cavilon barrier cream.

Jane - Ill get Vaseline today and try using that in the future as a barrier. Ive also just ordered the Aloe spray, so ill get using that as soon as it comes through.

The main reason that i was using the hibiscrub was because she had some pus type stuff near her genitals, so if that comes back again then ill use the hibitane on that small area only.

The redness and heat from her underneath seems to have calmed down a fair bit, and she was no where near as wet when i went to clean her.

Just wondering how i get sudocream off her fur now!!

Kay - yes, if you ask Caroline that would be great, she has seen Inca so might have some ideas :)

I know she has been through alot in her life, but she definately will have any treatment possible here, thats for sure, she is my wee baby!

Shaving the fur in the area might help, if she has some left, as then it's easier to clean and get completely dry. If she then has absorbent bedding like vet bed to sit on she'll dry quicker/more effectively too.

She has been shaved underneath, got that done last week, ive just got some cream on the fur where she isnt shaved!

She also has vetbed, blankets & towels all over her room....it does help the wetness on her feet better as it absorbes some of the wet up. I feel like im forever washing them all!

I know you would never give up on her:) as if it wasn't for you offering her a forever home she would still be in rescue now

Well Inca is alot less red this morning and she was only slightly wet too :)

Im definately thinking that the hibitane has been too much for her, shame i had to learn the hard way and put her through a few days of being really sore

Thanks for all the advice, as usual its helped loads.
