Bunny People

Amy104

Warren Veteran
I was in the vets yesterday for Baileys vacs and a lady started asking me about my rabbits. She told me her daughter had some and although she spent everyday handling them and socialising her the buns were quite untame. She had got in a friend who had experience in buns to help and the buns were as friendly as you like. Do you think that bunnies just don't like certain people or is it a confidence thing?

 yep i think petal has a love hate relationship with me, well to be honest i think she has love hate with bunnies as well. bless her, she can't help it. but it's like dogs too, they always say a dog picks it's owner not the other way around.

Definitely! My Amber DETESTS a certain vet. She's fine with the nurse and the other two vets but this particular vet, which happens to be the owner of the practice:roll: turns her into a were-rabbit!

I think a big factor is HOW they are handled. Rabbits often only like to be picked up in a certain way...or not picked up at all!

I've noticed that most people try to grab a rabbit from behind which triggers the 'prey' instinct and they automatically start to run or scrabble free.

yep, definately
My girls let me do pretty much anything to them, but not my housemates

But Indi LOOOOOOOOVES men!!! She does trust me, but she'd much rather climb/sit on/be petted by blokes, even men she hasnt met before!

I think it depends on many factors, like how the person feels and what they communicate to the rabbit (be it fear, lack of confidence, anxiety, excitement, relaxation, etc), how they approach and handle the rabbit, possibly past experiences, different smells on the person and surroundings.

Alvin quite likes me, in a sort of human hating way.. but he REALLY distrusts Ste, even if theres pellets he avoids him :lol::lol::lol::lol:

I agree entirely, one of my buns likes to be picked up with you being in front of him, and the other one is better if you're behind her (I put my hand on her head first so she knows I'm going to pick her up). If I picked them up how they prefer and hold them how they prefer then they're fine.

I also think its about confidence, if I dither about with it, I think they know and they feel nervous. Plus once I have a bun in my arms, I hold them quite tightly, especially my Lavender bun, she seems to be calmer, perhaps she feels safer. My other half is worried about hurting her so he holds her quite loosely and she always kicks him!

Teddy REALLY didn't like G!! I think he was on to something! I will make sure he meets all possible suitors first  If he doesn't like them then they won't be good for me!:lol:

He really liked my mum, but she would never go near him....just didn't like the black monster. Then, on holiday, she spent some bonding time with him and decided that he was a lovely bun!:roll:

I do think they take a liking/dislike to some people, but also think that if the person has no confidence then they register it and might be difficult.

i think all animals sense something, my bigs hated his first vet,

when he went to have his first ever vax ( a differant and rather saucy piece of totty i may say *sigh*) biggles just melted into his arms and wasnt even phased by the vets dogs banging on the dog behind him
