I need a decent bunny vet! Can anyone help?

Ok.
I posted a bulletin a while ago about my rabbit Max who has got a blocked up Tear Duct.
The vets unsure of weather its the tear duct itself or weather its got something to do with its teeth.

Max had to have his eye washed through and that cost me £80 and if he had to have an operation to look to see if it is a probelm with his teeth that would cost me £150, weather it is his teeth or not.
But my vet also said that most people "call it a day" when it comes to having teeth operated on as it just not worth it. And how i needed to seriously consider weather it was or not.

But i got alot of people telling me i was being massivly over charged and that my vet didnt sound very good.

So i go Scarsdale Vets, formally known as Marshall and Till in Derby.
So dose anyone no of another vets i could use thats good?.. and has anyone else had a problem or a really bad experiance with the vets i'm using at the moment?

Id really appriciate it thanks xx

Is this in Kedleston Road?
I think they are great, although I've only been with them for a year.

Is his eye actually bothering him? Ginger has a problem with one of his tear ducts. We've had it flushed out twice but it just comes back within days, so we just leave it now. Pickles will lick it occasionally, but apart from that they don't seem bothered.

I'd say if it's not making him ill, just leave it.

This is fine if it is done with the advice of a vet and all other health problems such as tooth roots have been ruled out.

Just read your other thread. My bunny was treated at the same practice as yours about a month ago. I remember paying £45 to have his tear ducts flushed and not £80 :?. I'm not saying you're lying but maybe £80 includes something more than tearduct flushing :?. Just for the record - and because I don't feel comfortable with all the 'naming and shaming' - I have received nothing but good service from Scarsdale vets.

It might also depend on the vet you see at a practice. I will only see my vet in my practice as the others are not experienced with rabbits. Perhaps Antigone can pm Rosie and recommend the name of her vet, as she has said she is pleased.

I don't think Rosie is saying her vet is not good. We are just trying to clarify if they are rabbit savvy, as many vets are not. Its reassuring that through this post, she is able to find that a member uses them and feels they are good (but its important to realise that not all the vets in a practice may be experienced with rabbits)

I was just about to say that too.

In my practice there is only one vet I trust 100%, and I have seen about 3 others who are "OK" and one that was useless.

Good luck Rosie.

Done! :)
Good luck Rosie.

This is the vets I use (though I usually go to the one in Oakwood if its open coz its closer, but the vets are the same). I think I've seen all of the different vets there and they're all really nice. One is more of a rabbit specialist I believe, but has gone on maternity leave now (or soon will).

As for cost, I've been twice this week to Oakwood and they havn't charged me at all, although I did bring my own antibiotics. They've also got confused with cost over something once and told me not to bother paying and they'd just sort it out the next time. I've heard of Vets Practices that are cheaper, but I like Scarsdale.
