Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

sneezing and itchy ears!

hi
I have a new bun who is approx 12 week old now. He tends to have little sneezing episodes through the day, he has no discharge is extremely happy and binkying all over. Im wondering if its hay dust as he has fresh hay daily.

Also i have noticed he has been scratching the top of his ear on the outer and its loosing a bit of fur and looking dry is there anything anyone can recommend to apply to this or does he need the vet? i wondered if he maybe had a mite or something from the hay?

thanks in advance

It is possible he has an infection that is causing both the sneezing and the ear irritation, for example pasteurella, although ear or fur mites are also possible.
Best get him checked by the vet on both accounts

Had Jo to vets this morning, he is perfectly healthy no lice or mites and no infection. Vet gave him a spot on and he thinks the itching etc is due to an allergy to hay dust or something similar.
Got to clean his ears with hibiscrub (sp) and put small coating of sudocream on to stop them getting infected until the scabs dissapear.
