Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit eye problem

Furry

Young Bun
hello all,

One of my rabbit's left eye is weeping, she always been having problem with her eye all her life but most of the time it will cleared up by itself couple of days later.

But this time it seem quite bad, she been treated by vet with Fucithalmic eye drop a month ago and it cleared up the problem. But it came back yesterday.

question - is this condition contagious?

is there a natural remedy instead of more antiboitic eye drops?

Was hoping to try something natural before putting her through another vet trip and another course of eye drops.

She is still bright and her self apart from with a wet eye.

Thanks

Has she had her tear ducts flushed? Also, has she had a skull x-ray?

Conjunctivitis can be catching, but that's not necessarily her problem.

Before I see a vet I bathe my ones eyes with cooled boiled water, but it is important to see a vet and maybe look at the different options of looking at the root cause of the runnyness as opposed to potentially just treating the symptom.

She had her teeth done a few months back. so i dont think its her teeth.

she hasnt done any eye flushes.

so do i need to separate her from her friends? Dont really want to do this unless absolutely necessary.

Whether or not you separate her is your choice (many factors play a part, I think). I had one guy in a trio get conjunctivitis. I didn't separate him and none of the others got it.

It might be worth looking at a tear duct flush, and also a skull x-ray to see what's happening with the tooth roots.
