  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Scabs

I have noticed 2 small scabs on Jims.
One on his cheek, I thought it was a whisker bed at first but pulled all of the fur back and had a good look, it looks like a relitivly old scab as the fur is in a tuff and looks like it may come off soon, it is not sore to the touch and looks clean, the other is a fresher looking one, it is a red little scab that has a sharp feel to it but also not sore to the touch.
I think he has just scratched himself a bit too hard, sometimes he really goes to town
Apart from that he seems fine in himself, eating, pooping, drinking and playing just like my little monkey.

The thing to watch with scabs that you find is to make sure there is nothing going on underneath. I had a bun with a clean looking dry scab but was infected underneath and so scab had to come off and clean out yucky stuff. You will know though as it will be swollen under it. Hope its nothing though.

I have had another look and the one on his head looks like a nothing little scab, literally a red spot.
The one on his cheek looks like (if this makes sense) there is a thick bit of fur coming out of his skin then the little scab then a big tuff of fur.
Does not look red or swollen though.
