  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

runny poo!

Hi, I have had 2 boys who lived together outside in a hutch where they had lots of pellets and hay. I didn't get outside to see them for a few days and sadly, i found one had died and the other traumatised this morning - whether it was the bad weather or something else i don't know. I have bought the other one in and we have given him water, greens, carrot and pellets as well as his hay, and he is eating fine but pooing a lot more than usual and it is softer and sticking to him. Is it because i have given him greens after a few days of not having them? Or is it likely that the other one died of some illness and the other has it? I haven't encountered this before, any advice would be great, thanks.

I think you need to take him to the vet as soon as possible. It could be due to the increase in greens if he is not used to them, but with the other rabbit dying I think you need to get him thoroughly checked over.

I agree. He needs a vet check ASAP. I would call your emergency vet now.

Also, it is sensible to try and check your buns at least twice a day so that you can identify problems as soon as possible.

I agree a vet check is very important to ensure he is not unwell and hiding a potential problem.
Please do try and keep a close watch on your bun, bunnies are social creatures and do require attention to keep them happy and also it is important as others have said to ensure you detect any sign of illness.

thanks

thanks to those of you who replied, i am wracked with guilt! I will see how he is tomorrow and take him to the vet. He is eating happily now though and hehas had lots of cuddles.

Did you take him to the vet?

I think this is considered an emergency. It could be anything like coccidia or a different parasite, or something he ate, mucoid enteritis, lots of things, so please get him checked if you haven't already.
