  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Curiouser and curiouser (teeth)

Wise Old Thumper
I have always been suspictious of Frankie's teeth since he came to me. His bottom teeth overlap his bottom ones, and as they have grown the bottom ones have begun to overlap the top ones. **they are not overgrown, and he is still eating**. I made a comment on another thread that his teeth on the bottom were grinding down, but leaving a mm or 2 of un ground down tooth. When he had his myxi 2-3 weeks ago the vet checked them and said they were fine. he had been 2 weeks previousl to this too, as I was concerned.

Anyway, looked him over this evening, and he is missing a bottom tooth  There is no blood or anything like that, it just looks like the newer tooth underneath has pushed the old, must have been fractured, tooth out. He is eating his evening veg, although I have cut it up a little smaller and generally well and in good condition. and has been eating hay today.

Going to see the vet ASAP, I don't know if it will be tomorrow or Tuesday, as I work late tomorrow.

Advice,help, insight?

Awww, bless him! Funny teeth! I'm sure he's fine, and it's just his mouth's way of dealing with it. If he's eating and drinking fine, I wouldn't worry, although a vet trip would reassure you.
Squidgy's teeth are a mystery, as he had maloclusion, so had his incisors removed. He's not a brilliant hay eater, but has never had any problems with spurs or anything, and by all rights he should have!
They're just special :D

I have only had this happen once, a tooth breaking and falling out on its own. It turned out he an infection in his gum and eventually needed all incisors removing. Hopefully the vet can check for infection and it is nothing that serious. Hope it goes well
