  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tilly back at vets ....

Stephy

Alpha Buck
Hi everyone - I took my little Tilly to the vet this morning as I noticed that her genitals were swollen whilst trimming her claws :( Some of you will remember she suffered with myxomatosis, so obviously am a bit worried. The vet said she has a 'prolapsed anus' and that this is almost certainly linked to her previous myxi, due to cutaneous tissue being delicate and perhaps becoming easily infected. He said he has never seen this in a rabbit before ..... has anyone else? Jane?

Anyway, she also seems a bit snufflier than usual and she is on Baytril for 10 days - 1.5mls a day which seems to be a lot for her, she's a 1.5kg bunny.

Poor little thing, she doesn't deserve it, she's my baby. Please keep everything crossed for this little girl ... thanks xx

15 mins isn't that long to wait for a reply, especially in here, so sit tight and be patient :) And maybe cross post to rabbit chat to see if anyone can help.

I have no experience, unfortunately, but I really hope that Tilly is ok and makes a speedy recovery.

Have you used the search function to search for prolapse or anything else relevant?

Hi - thanks for answering. No he didn't try and she doesn't have pain relief ... having said that she seems ok in herself.
