  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

how do i toilet train my rabbit

 With patience  You need a good size litter tray to start with - I think the square ones (similar to one you would use for a cat, maybe a bit smaller depending on the bun). Use megazorb topped with hay and a hay rack clipped within nibbling distance while the tray is being used or put the clean edible hay in a slightly different container - some people use an old kitchen roll tube or toilet roll tube stuffed with yummy hay and tie that so bun can nibble it. I use the cheaper (Pets at home) bog standard - pardon the pun hay for litter tray and bedding area's and buy the nicer Burgess or Timothy for eating. When the bun goes to the toilet you need to collect all the little poops and any hay with wee on and put it in the litter tray-as often as you can - you still need to clean out the litter tray at least every 2 days while training but, remember to put a bit of soiled wee wee hay and poop back in the clean tray for scent. It takes time but, if you perservere and show the bunny what your doing and when they do it reward them they will eventually get the message. Good luck, be consistent and patient x

 Just thought aswell it's a good idea to position the litter tray where the bunny appears to 'favour' going - not always easy if its all over the place but, generally for wee wee they favour a corner - good idea to find the preferred spot as thats half the battle
