  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Broken claw- Update

I have just noticed on Jimby's back right foot one of his claws was coming out side ways, I have had as good a look as I can (He is a wriggler) and from what I can see and feel it is some of the claw that has broken but not come away from the rest of the claw, if that makes any scense? I tried to pull it but he kept running off.
It does not seem to bother him, he is not limping or anything, however the other day he did kind of stumble when he came out of his house so maybe that was when he broke it?

Do I need to worry? He has a vet appointment in about 3 weeks to have a dental do you think unless he shows any signs of anything being wrong it would be ok to leave it until then and just have the vet check?

Can you get someone to hold him whilst you take a better look. It is probably just a broken nail which will drop off. But it'd be a good idea to check that there is no sign of injury/infection to the actual toe. As he is not limping or paying any attention to it further injury seems unlikely. But it's best to err on the side of caution. Also, if the nail is at a strange angle and still partially attatched he may catch it again and make it bleed.

Thank you for your post Jane.
I had another look this morning and can not see it, had a look at his toe and from what I can see all is back to normal, it must have fallen off over night.
