Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

So what now??Booked in for xray.

Im so down about Lily. Please go easy on me!!
Her face was all snotty, wet paws and sneezing.Shes on baytril too.
I take her to the vets every 3 weeks to have her teeth trimmed.(no GA/sedation)....
Discussing with vet to have teeth out...her front teeth.Vet is worried Lily wont survive a GA cos of her snuffles.
Thinking of sedation for xray first to see what we are up against but vet said I may still lose Lily anyway!!! Ive rescued her from her death...Im scared.
If she does survive, will her snuffles go completely??What would I feed her??
Shes currently on Junior/dwarf pellets....veg/fruit and hay.(Not that she eats much hay...but she tries I think.)
Can someone help??

I'm really sorry to hear about Lily. :(

I've never had a bun with incisors removed but I know several people who have and their buns have coped very well eating all the normal foods, all they had to do was chop the veggies up a bit smaller that's all. I do feel it is very important that she has a GA for her incisor extraction though, and they could perhaps do an Xray of her head/jaw and her chest/lungs at the same time?
Perhaps a lighter GA would be less of a problem for her? I'm no expert on this. If the risks are high under GA then maybe it would be better to continue with dentals?

Is it just her incisors she has trimmed? My vet also does the incisors without a GA - it is very quick and does not require the mouth to be gagged wide open as it would for molars so don't worry too much about that. :)

Snuffles does tend to be a chronic thing - BUT if your vet can isolate the cause this might really help and she might have some long periods of remission. Under a GA they could also do a high nasal swab for the bacteria in the respiratory tract and perhaps find a more appropriate antibiotic? Bisolvon and a nebuliser might also help her URTI? An Xray might point to a elongated tooth root but atleast you would know for sure?
How do her lungs sound?

Her lungs dont sound too bad apparently.......
I thought I was gonna get a rollocking for her not having a GA for teeth clipping.
I would like a sedation (gentle) for an xray..of teeth and lungs as you suggest. Then see what Im up against.
As luck would have it,Ive started a new job...full time (as well as my PT job) so I will have money but its been a struggle the last few months. Not that my buns have gone without, you must understand,or any of my pets come to that...I would always go without something. but I was wondering how I was going to pay for all this treatment for her.

I think there is a difference between burring incisors and molars with and without sedation, different techniques and access etc. no need to go into it here. Lily's needs now are more important.
If her lungs are ok then hopefully the GA will be ok too. If your vet is a little apprehensive then perhaps they are anxious about doing it? Or not experienced enough? I'm just guessing here...

She said shes done it before and explained how some teeth can be.
Im trying all I can and Im worried its not enough.
Lily came to me all little and thin.....shes now filled out,has time indoors with me and loves nose rubs.Im hoping she has enough body strength and will to survive now she has a decent chance.
But the vet said its a long GA.

Hi, I am so sorry to hear about Lilly, you sound like you have done a wonderful job with her and it is clear that you love her so.
Are you able to go to a rabbit dental specialist maybe you can ask your vet to refer you? They would be a lot more confident and Lilly would be in the best hands.
Jimby also has his teeth burred and clipped without GA.

I dont know what to think anymore.
I will ask my vets if they can refer me to a bunny specialist and darn the expense.

So sorry to read this tonight Yvette. I had thought that Lilly was doing well, I've never forgotten you both.

Just to reassure you that there is no disapproval from me for having incisors treated without GA.
Also to say that I found that although a bunny specialist is more expensive, they get to the bottom of the problem quicker, so it works out that I wasted less money. Thumper finally got the necessary treatment, & I was less anxious all the time.
Loads of prayers going up for you both.

Lily is going under a sedation a week today....an xray to see whats going on.Her mouth and chest.....
The anaesthetic is reversible i was pleased to hear.
