Do you have insurance?

I have been wondering for a while whether to take out insurance for my buns.. Pet plan quoted me £17 a month for my 2..

I have seriously thought about it and know vets bills can run up dramatically with a poorly bun but also £17 a month is quite alot?

Are yours insured?

I worked out it is around £70 a month for my 6 buns and 2 cats.

Definately go with it Cherry has taught me that and do it ASAP, as you never know what can crop up.

I know others say to save, but sometimes ongoing conditions can quickly mount up, as can emergencies. Also most vets have you pay and then you are reimbursed by the company, so you still need the money up front.

I'm not for a few reasons. Firstly I prefer to just put the money aside myself. The animals have their own bank account... Which I've found to be a good thing especially with Grimlock. His problems started before I got him and every time he's been to the vet it's all due to his teeth. So if I had insurance it wouldn't have covered anything.

They also charge you an excess, about £50 I think, which means it's only worth it for serious trips to the vets.

But on the other hand, if a problem developed after insurance was taken out that could cost a lot it would be worth it. However if a trip to the vets is £80 a time, you're going to be saving only £30 a time...

I had the dilemma of whether to insure or not about 10 months ago - I took out insurance and then cancelled in the cooling off period. I can't insure Artie now as he's over five .... he's also cost me about £1,000 in the time since I cancelled his insurance. a few of those bills have been stasis/bloat episodes costing about £90 - £140, so I would have to pay the first £50 anyway. He had an operation and aftercare costing £336 and a recent stay costing £263 - so, yes, I wish I had had insurance.

My bunnies in the past cost me very little as my non-specialist vet would just give them a couple of jabs and send them home if they were not eating, my rabbit savvy vet does more thorough investigations so costs more.

As Lottielouise says, good plan to get them insured ASAP before they have pre-existing conditions that will become exclusions on the policy.

i don't have insurance and am coming up to £2000 now on bisc and matt since feb in vets bills! i think insurance would have helped in my case! you never know what is going to happen.

saying that, we put money aside in savings for them anyway and i probably still would in the future if we had anymore rabbits.

our guinea pigs aren't insured either.

I've insured Bramble with Pet Plan. Just over £10 a month. We had a big emergency vet bill, which is why we decided to.

Does anyone know if it includes all pet trips for anything?
i.e dentals, operations, statis etc

My 2 dont suffer from anything at the mo but are still fairly young..

hmmmm

I use to be with Pet Plan and they were really good but I don't have any rabbit insurance now as I've 14 buns, what I do is I save the odd £1 and £2 coins and put in a tin for any big Op's that any may need in the future.
