  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Barney still not right

I'm still really worried about Barney. Some of you might know he was in stasis on Fri, sorted quickly with vets app and medication though. He has been eating, pooing and drinking fine ever since. But... he is just not right and I'm really worried. He just seems really quiet and withdrawn and not his usual self. He finished his metacam last night but still on Baytril (which he hates) once a day. Not sure if it is this upsetting him or something else. He is not eating all of his ceacotropes either which has never happened before. Any ideas what could be wrong?

I've just found out this week that I should have paid more attention to the not eating all of his ceacotropes that my bunny, Artie was doing.(As it seems it could have been stress secondary to pain)

Artie had a not eating episode on Sunday for which I took him to the emergency vets. Luckily he was xrayed and it turns out he has a problem with his bladder, ie the not eating was secondary to pain from his bladder and not a digestive upset.

Not eating the caecotropes can be caused by stress so there could be an underlying problem as there was with Artie. Go with your instinct if you think he's not happy, there could still be an underlying problem, but it could be all sorts of things, further investigations may be needed. Good luck.

Thanks. I will mention it to the vets. He has a check up on Friday but might try to get him in tomorrow instead of waiting. Not sure if I should keep giving the Baytril if that is upsetting his tummy. Hope it is nothing serious if it is an underlying problem.
