Kirkby's new accommodation

Just thought you might like to see the new kennel block that Celia's had installed:D It has 6 hutches each side that have "cat" flaps allowing them access to a run, each hutch is large enough to accommodate 3 rabbits:D

A lot of the old hutches have been dismantled and some of the materials have been recycled to mend other hutches. The work is ongoing but thanks to the volunteers we are making progress, even on a day like today when it was pouring with rain, sprits weren't dampened, 9 volunteers arrived armed with saws, drills, wood, roofing felt etc, not as much work was carried out as planned but every little helps and it proves their commitment:D

The best news is that the numbers have dropped to below 90 which is incredible, when there were over 120 only a few weeks ago, the figures would have been lower but Celia took in another 9 this week including 6 babies:cry:

It really was miserable today but we still got 24 bunnies photographed and I have just put them all on RR.

Hopefully the weather will be a bit brighter next week and we can get more done.

The weather really wasn't on our side today :? But we still got a few bits done - fingers crossed everyone that next weekend is at least dry! :)

We'll then be able to carry on the good work :)

Its really heart warming to see so many people come together on a project like this, bravo to all involved. Love the new accomodation :D

Celia funded the new kennel block out of her own money, and it was built to her specifications:D All the money we have raised from fundraisers has gone direct to the vets to cover the costs of myxi vacs/neuters.

The volunteers have stained the kennel to protect it from winter, and one was clever enough to design and make the locks for the outside. We have received some vouchers for B&Q which were put to good use, and also some volunteers have brought wood, wire and roofing felt, we have even received things from freecycle to use.

Weather permitting we are going back weekly to upgrade/weatherproof some of the older hutches, but we realise that the weather and time are against us.

We have been very lucky to have some hutches donated to the rescue, perhaps if you have one that is no longer in use you would consider donating it to the rescue, we will try and arrange collection wherever possible (unless you would like to adopt one of the many gorgeous buns to home in it).

Two fundraisers are currently running - name a Kirkby bun http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=196372

and a silent auction for a knitted bunny http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=200906

Thank you all for your kind comments and continued support, I wish you could see the difference this has made to the lives of the bunnies at the rescue:D
