How much did you pay to neuter?

Yesterday I found out the vet I was planning to use to have my 4 buns neutered charges $270 per rabbit  I was expecting more like $50-$100. I'll def. be finding another vet to neuter them. About how much does it cost over in the UK?

Also, does anyone know of an active rabbit forum with US members? I was hoping to find recommendations for vets in my area. I'm so nervous about having my buns neutered- afraid I'll pick a bad vet or something will go wrong. I've even had several dreams about it. Just last night I dreamed we brought all 4 in and then picked them up later that day and they were fine and I was like "I wish we'd gotten them neutered back in August like I'd planned. Everything went fine. I worried about it for nothing". And then a few weeks ago I dreamed my dad and I neutered them ourselves, that was weird

There are a few members from the US on here :) The best thing you can do is ask questions before you send them for neutering, see how much the vet actually knows about bunnies. You need to find a vet that specialises in rabbits really, i dont know how hard/easy that is over there?

I paid £40 for my boy to be neutered, i dont know what that would be in your money?

Good luck anyway :) xXx

I think it cost me about £45 to neuter Pipkin... In dollars I think that is maybe about $70? Not entirely sure what the conversion rate is at the moment though so that could be way off

I would suggest calling around all the vets in your area and asking your local human society who neuters their buns too. They can be done a lot cheaper than that in the US.

At my local vets it's male neuter - £46.00 , female neuter - £65.00
At my Rabbit savvy vet it's male neuter - £77.00, female neuter - £95.00

I probably also should have said Pipkin is a boy XD
His was also in the cheaper range because he is so tiny. At my vets the price increases the larger the rabbit because they obviously need to use more anaesthetic.

There's another vet near me that charges the exact same male or female and regardless of size... I always found that a bit odd...:?

Depending on which kind of rabbit you have, the price will vary. The larger the rabbit, the less it costs. For a dwarf rabbit (a smaller breed), it would cost anywhere from $95-$110. for a larger rabbit, it would probably only cost about $70.

I'm glad neutering shouldn't cost that much. dunno what is wrong with that vets, surely people don't actually pay $270 for one rabbit :? I'm going to call around and try and find a vet that charges about $50. and I'll see if the humane society will do neutering, I thought they only neutered animals up for adoption. Mine are all pretty small rabbits (2 nethies, 1 mini rex, 1 mini lop) so that should make it less expensive?

I paid $95 for Julie but that was almost 5 years ago. The first Vet that I went to was going to charge more than double that. What I did was to call the local rabbit rescue and asked who they used and what it should cost. Plus the rabbit rescue is going to use a rabbit savvy vet and the vet will be very experienced doing all the neuters for them.
