  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Xeno 450

Alpha Buck
I've just had Sadie at the vets.

She has come up with a few bald bits on her back, with red skin underneath.

Vet did soem scrapings to check for mite, can;'t see any but is treating with Xeno 450 just to be on the safe side - Sadie has to have 3 pellets (as is a giant) today, then in 14 days, and 28 days).

Quick question - Samson her hubby has no sympotms, should I treat him as if he has, or should i do the routine provention dosage on him? I don't tend to treat them routinely as only had a mites probably once befroe and that was in the piggiess...

Also how much do people pay for their Xeno450?I almost died at my vets bill lol....£68 (£20 for skin scraping and hair samples which are being sent off to check for ringworm), £15 for consultation, £11 on baytril, and £22 on Xeno450 (6 pippets).

I still need to get another two boxes for 14 days, and 28 days, so wondering if there's anywhere cheaper to get them from, the cheapest I have found so far is an online site at £19.50 a box.

If that was mine I would treat both and the environment, just in case it is mites. If the Xeno doesn't clear it then you will have to look at other options for the problem.

I found them expensive too. I was buying for 7 nethies, so probably wasn't far off what you have to buy for yours and it did cost a lot, unfortunately. I would shop about more online and see what you can find.

thanks sky, yup would be about the same as nethies i am guessing are a poppet each per treatment, where as my two giants need six poppets between them per treatment, the joys of pet keeping eh? wouldn't have them any other way though!!!

mine had 7 in....not that it helps lol, i would need an extra 5 freebies to do one round each on the pair of them

i have to admit when i was asked for £68 i did ask if that included all three courses of xeno....i think the receptionist knew i was ratehr shocked by the price...i mean i expect to pay when they have operations etc, and i know that some treatments are costly....but if i bought all there packs from the vets that would be almost £90 just for the treatments (sadies spay and after treatment cost less than that and including a night on a drip!!!)

sadie is due back at the vets next week, and they should have the results of her hair and scraping samples then, so going to wait til then to order next lot in (that will then give them a week to arrive), just in case they suddenly say it's ringworm not mite.

I was shocked by the price because my old vets only charged £4 something for 6.After a few phone calls by my present vet it turned out they had the prices on computor wrong!Am using the olive oil treatment too at mo,so both my buns hate me!!:(
