Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbits Teeth

Sazlloyd

New Kit
Hi all
I was just after a little bit of advice please. I am new to looking after rabbits and have had robbie for about 6 months but I was just wondering when I will know if his teeth need doing as I am unsure.
Thanks Sarah

Unless he has a problem with his teeth they shouldn't need any routine work. Although rabbits teeth grow continually as long as he eats lots of hay they should wear down naturally. If you're at all worried a vet can have a look for you and check they are okay :)

He is not very good at eating his hay although he has a good run out every day and eats plenty of fresh grass. Will that do the same thing for him?

Yes, fresh grass works the same as hay. Hay and grass are interchangeable so if he eats loads of grass it doesn't matter if he doesn't eat much hay
