  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How long between panacuring...

...and getting my rabbit spayed?

My vet said to leave it 2weeks after finishing the 9 day course of panacur, just wondered what the experts on here thought? It was the last today, so that will be 27th oct, is that too soon?

I got a quote of £50.63 for spaying and she said they normally do the op in the morning and we go and pick her up in the afternoon. Firstly i've looked on here and that seems a reasonable price. But is that how other vets do it? I read somewhere that some stay overnight at other places?

My vets are The Oaks Veterinary Surgery, lordswood in kent. Anybody used these before? They are good but wondered if anybody on here has been there before?

Thanks for any help :)

Charlie.

The current opinion amongst Bunny Vets is that a 9 day course of Panacur is pointless. It is now recommended that every Rabbit has a one-off 28 day course. The Rabbit's accomodation must be bleach cleaned (10% bleach solution then rinse with boiling water) on days 21 and 28 of treatment.

I would leave it 2 weeks after treatment before getting Bun spayed.

I agree that a 28 day course is needed, the RWF conference on EC and the use of panacur specified that rabbits could be neutered on day 21 of the 28 day course as long as they were not being treated for an active infection :D
