  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi all ive got a 2yr old nth dwarf ive only had him 3 weeks should i get him neutered or not??? advice please thanx x

Is he healthy?

It would probably be better for him to be neutered for a varieyt of reasons, not least of all being it would mean if you wanted to get him a friend then you could.

Do you have a good rabbit savvy vet?

I would definately get him castrated, one of mine is booked in tomorrow, then once his hormones settle down in about 5 weeks I'm going to bond him with one of my does. Perhaps you could get a friend for yours once he's been done;)

i do have a good vet but i have only ever took guinea pigs to them if i was to get him a wife and i got him done does that mean i dont have to get the female done x

It's just as important to get the female done, it can prevent uterine cancer, a lot of does over the age of 3 are prone to this. Also it calms their hormones down:D

It's good you have a good vet :) It might be worth checking out how knowledgable he is though because some vets can be great with some types of animals, but not keep uptodate on other types of animals.

If your get your boy done then you may be able to find him a friend at a rescue, where the lady bun would hopefully be spayed already. But yes, it is even more important to get a girlie done because of the high risks of uterine and other hormonal cancers/tumours.
