  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi all, just wanted to know if anyone could recommend a good vets in the Castle Donington/Derbyshire area. We had our lil' bun castrated last Fri and he was fine but vets we used gave No advice at all:evil: and No check-up appointment and no pain relief:evil: Poor Barney hasn't been eating much or pooing much at all and really not his usual bouncy self, after a weekend of worry took him to another vets after much argument on both vets parts! And he now has had pain relief and gut stimulant, he seem so much better already!! but now will never go back to 1st vets any advice or recommendations greatly recieved thanx Helen xx

We bunny carers have difficulty getting good health care for our buns because they are classed as "Exotics" in the veterinary world.:shock:

Many vet. courses only allocate 1/2 day to the whole of rabbit care out of a 5 year course. Obviously further training is needed to diagnose & treat our buns. Many vets do not have this. They are NOT bad vets, they simply don't have the specialist knowledge to help our buns. Obviously you need a bunny savvy vet.

I hope that someone in your area will reply soon to advise you.

We are a bit far down from you and use King Richards in Leicester

I know Cockburns in Coaville are used by several on the forum as are Woodwards
Maybe pm Baileydonut..karen as she lives in Derbyshire and may recommend hers

I use The Scarsdale Vetenary Group (mostly the Oakwood one, but took Nora to the on on Kedlestone road when she was poorly). The vet we saw at Oakwood was really nice. We said the bunnies weren't great at being handled so we all sat on the floor so they couldn't hurt themselves falling. The vet we saw at Kedlestone road said his girfriend kept rabbits, and seemed to know a lot about them too. They seemed to have more leaflets up about rabbits than cats or dogs as well.

I don't know if there are any surgeries that are on that side of Derby though?

http://www.scarsdalevets.com/ <- That's their website if you want a look :)

I second King Richards in Leicester as when we had our guineas and lived in Leicester that's where we took ours.
