  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rescued a mini lop today pepole should be shoot

I know it's very drastic but if the muck around his back end is well and truly stuck it might be worth asking your vet to shave some of the fur away. My vet had to do this with one of our buns when we got him because he was in a bad way. It's more of a last resort though. :(

kinder way is to ask vet to shave its quick it doesnt take that long to grow back less stress , i used to use bird claw sissors as they are small but you need to be confident or use 2 people, you can bath and soften the poo but i think its only ok if the bunny doesnt really mind it

ok took this rabbit to the vet he has a nasty sore on one of his testicals they have put him on anti botics and have booked him into being neautred on thursday with one of my other rabbits they shaved the worse if for me yesteray too the poor wee thing looks so scared at the moment but he is eatting a drinking ok I have him inside at the moment till my OH builds another hutch for me he says I never give him a weekend rest so thats us up to 7 rabbits 3 dogs 2 cats and fish all them rescue cases and to tell the truth we annt ending there we need to find a few girlfriends for our boys after they get over there ops

Thats super . . . but I do wonder if you should give him a couple of weeks before the neuter to settle down? My vet always gives them a couple of weeks after any change in their life (ie new home, new conditions, new food etc) before doing any GA op.
