vibes for bertie please...emergency vets..

purplebumble

Warren Veteran
please please please can i have vibes for my big beautiful rew frenchie bertie?

hes had a hard time since losing willow last october and his eye ulcers...

his tummy has never eevr been the same since his guts kept shutting down after losing willow and the locum vet never gave him fluids and sent him home cos hed eaten a little hay and pood five poos!!
thankfully i took the advice on here and demanded zantac syrup..which after ellen had given him fluids under the skin as well..he was able to lift his head for a feed.

hes had a dodgy tummy since. and his eye ulcers active yet again..even after it had been declared healed by the exotics specialist.

no teeth probs..nothing any vet has been able to find.

today hed cowpatted the inside doorway of their kids tent they have in the lounge..it was horrendous but sadly over last few weeks..not the first time. wed been dosing him on fibreplex when he got..ellen said to do it as she couldnt find anything else wrong:(

today i cleaned it all up..he didnt want any more than three pellets and a small nible of hay. so we gave him a 60ml syringe of critical care.

i had to have an hours nap before finding out if mums bun could come from the vets..ive had cystitis and needed a snooze:oops:

when i came downstairs ready to ring the taxi for me and mum..we found bertie very ill....very lethargic..even for the worlds laziest frenchie which he is famous for being:oops:

hed only done 10 small egg shaped poops in 3 hours when he normally buries the lounge by that time...half a carrier bag ful of th eones not in the tray is normal:shock:

he seemed very quiet and depressed and for the fourth or fifht day in a row bif was keeping her distance...hiding behing the hay box..shes done this with each bun thats died...:(

so rang the vets..took him down and vet said it wasnt right..it was serious hed had his tummy like this for so long and hed been losing weight:(

so hes in the vet hospital......they are going to do all they can..but the only obvious thing they can find is his eye. so maybe its pain from that...again.

bifs terrified without him..the cats are worried sick...salem even stayed downstairs with ehr for a few hours after we came to bed..we wanted her routine to be as normal as poss. he is very close to bif as when he was a tiny kitten she took him around and litter trianed him:oops:

im overjoyed mums bun survived the horrific bout of stasis she had thursday...and happy my mums happy but im upset and worried sick about bertie..and forgot to mention i heard him a bit wheezy two days in a row last week or week before..but hes been fine since.

itll be 27th of this month that we lost willow........im worried sick bertiell be next..or bif will if shes stressed enough:(

my big boy bertie....a dirty lazy old soul..hes 4 and a half now..ive had him 3 years.....and hes an amazing gentle funny old duffer with a temper like a grumpy old man.:love: please feel better soon bertie:love:

Sending lots and lots of vibes for Bertie. Let us know how he gets on. xxx

Thank you all so much...must have helped lots!!

he was allowed home after 4pm today...the evt said hed had alot of care..a lot of it..and was brighter this morning with no sloppy cowpats...omg did she think i was exaggerating or making it up:shock::oops:
but she said she is sending off fecal samples for testing.

when i went to collect him i was expecting the usual bring him back if he gets worse or doesnt improve...but instead was told...he needs to be seen again tomorrow:shock: i told them he has an outstanding appointment with our vet at the local branch in the morning..to check his eye again. so they said she coulkd do the follow on check he needs tomorrow. huh?

hes had two syringe feeds since he got home and two lots of fibreplex.....he is eating some pelelts and some hay and he drank a huge amount...but frenchies and larger buns need to be topped up longer with feeds as it takes longer to get their tums full and working.
if he does the cowpat thingy in the morning..this time ill take it in..in a jam jar if i have to....pheweeeee

hes very wobbly and weak and so tired even for bertie...hes as weak as he was if not a bit worse!!

its bothering me...hes having less pellets eats sooo much stalky meadow hay..drinks loads from a dog bowl. why has his tummy ben so bad.

hes finally been allowed back for a snuggle with bif..shes taking care of him so i canget some sleep..i was awake msot of the night and up earlier in the morning..im so tired...i need to see the doc but the buns come first....i wont die from not seeing the docs..but buns are a diff matter.
my poor old mums gotta come with me again..so if i blackout or wonder off brain wise she can explain or keep an eye on me to make sure i get back home too:oops::oops: lack of sleep brings the attacks on worse.

his fur was falling out...hes lost a bit of weight without trying....he has these weird lumps in his ears inside the vets say they cant biopsy them cos of his ears...and he is suffering gi probs...a lot.
is it stress....is it his eye pain...or could it be somethinglike a mild gut infection..or even thryroid..somewhere i was reading oline about the link between the levels in the blood and the bumps in the ears!!
i was exhausted tho...i need to double check.
do you think i should also ask for his bloodwork to be done? i dont want to stress him anymore but seeing as he has to see the vet in the morning....

im so happy hes back.....even if hes weaker than he was already.....and needing syringe feeds as often as poss...60ml at a time!!

You poor thing, what a worry for you.
I think blood tests owuld be a good idea but I know what you mean about not wanting to stress him further.
I hope you get some answers xx

Thanks hun..thevet said no ned for aggressive treatemnt but today i have been a wreck.

hes not eating more than about 3 pellets..andhes hardly pooed and theres four soft poos...and hes not drinking mch at all.

we have been trying out some additions to his critical care syringefuls. I noticed his tummy abit swollen and a bit hard..gassy hard..so he had 2ml of infacol..then 2ml metaclopramide syrup..then 60ml critical care.followed by fibreplex and a tummy rub.

for brekkie he had fibreplex and a 50ml feed with a 10ml syringe of water.

then second session was what i have said above..and again tonite.

i staid downstairs with him till about 12 maybe 1am......and he pooed a bit and it was bigger than the others...but amount still very small...but they were golden not black..the fibre must be getitng thorugh with the little bit of hay he eats.
he has a sagging lower eyelid on his bad eye but it does go up when you pull it down. the other eye seems ok too. i know for sure when a bun is serioulsuy dehydrated their lower eyelids can be pulled down and they do not spring back at all...our bandit was like that when he was pts:(

i am scared every single time i go down to the lounge from being asleep....i hold my breath.
hes had a few cuddles tonights and again ive rubbed his tummy....i hope the tummy ribs and infacol will get rid of the gas.

before i cam eup to bed he actuallya te about three mouthfuls of pellets...yaya but then he did that first day home too.

he isnt getitng enough food into his tummy to make enough poos. despite eating hay.....he isnt eating enough of that either...but hes trying.

bif keeps getting freaked out and avoiding him...i panic hes dying when she does this as she did it when she lost oscar..then bandit.
but she then loves him silly washes the food off his ears and cleans his eyes and snuggles tight with him...he is so happy he has her....he sleeps pretty soundly then. in fact one time today i had to pick up asleep to wake him to feed him..was he relaxed or getitng weaker i ask myself....hes not well still i tel myself.

any tips please?

Sorry to hear he's still unwell.

I'm sure you already tried most of the things I could suggest, but anyway:

I think subcut or even i.v. fluids may be helpful in addition to the water you are syringing.
I assume he is on pain relief but I'm not sure what he's having.

If he's eating hay he may be craving fibre so I would get as many types to tempt him as possible, green oat etc. I would make sure he has access to fresh coarse grass and dandelions as well, plus some fresh herbs eg parsley.

A snugglesafe or hot water bottle will help (not sure whether you've mentioned one already).

And keep doing what you're doing, but watch out for his tummy getting more bloated. If it does you'll need to whisk him back to the vets.

When Tippex Porkychicken was poorly recently she had acupunture and I'm convinced it helped (she got better the same day, although I had started her on zantac that day as well). Something to bear in mind.

I really hope he starts to improve soon xx
