Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please can someone tell me if it is ok for rabbits of this age? there are lots of soft stools and now they have dirty bums today. they have lots of hay and few pellets. their diet has changed since being with us. We have taken them from someone who wanted rid.

THANK YOU

What are you feeding them? When my youngest bun was a baby I tried feeding him the excel junoir and dwarf food and it gave him terrible diahorrea! The diahorrea stopped as soon as I stopped feeding him that food!

Yes you can give young rabbits probiotics, but I would also look to eliminate the food that may be causing the soft poo as well. Then reintroduce that food much more gradually, or dont feed it to them again.

Cerys :)

Yes, but I would also cut out all food except hay and then gradually introduce the pellets over 1-2 weeks.

If you can't use the same food you need to build up the quantity of new gradually and just leave out the part where you mix in the old.

Thank you.
They're pretty much on hay only now. We put the pro-biotic in their water so we'll see how they go.
Only had them 2 days so just keeping our eye on them. Previous owner gave us a blank look when we asked if they ate hay before which pretty much said everything.
Hopefully after another day or two they'll settle down a bit.
