  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny weight

Alpha Buck
So, I just weighed the two new buns.

Faith is 2.4kg, Hope is 1.8kg. They're 4 month old french lops. Am I right in thinking that Faith's about right, but Hope needs to gain a few g's?

They've got as much hay as they'll eat, and plenty of pellets (lottielouise said they should have unlimited hay/pellets?), and we keep giving them fresh water regularly. They're going to be de-wormed in the next couple of days when I get hold of some Panacur. Just want to check what sort of weight they should be at to be just right :)

Panacur is cheap here

About half the price of p@h, and free postage on them too does work out at £8.91 once their under £15 surcharge has been added, but there are lots of treats and toys for rabbits at reasonable prices, which could bump the price up a bit :)

The heavier one sounds about right for her age, and with a good diet the lighter one will catch up. you could help her along, by feeding her a bit of porridge oats mixed with a bit of hot water and allowed to cool, just not too often, maybe every other day

Brilliant! Was going to buy it from a little independant store that were much cheaper than P@H but that's cheaper still. Thanks for the link :)

I also buy hay by the bale (great if you have somewhere to store it) at £4.50 a bale, 2 bales lasts about 3 months with 4 buns. and I have my guys on allen and page natural pellets which is £8.50 for 20kg (or is if 15kg), and way it lasts about 3 months and some goes to a local rescue. Allen and Page a pellet that is one of the highest in fibre, so is great for bun too
