Bernie Has Been Admitted- U/D She's Home-Pic Post 42

Jack's-Jane

Wise Old Thumper
I took Bernie to have another acupuncture treatment today for her spinal arthritis.
Bernie is an elderly Dental Bun. So C checks her teeth weekly now as we had decided 'no more Dentals'. Well today the check revealed spurs cutting into her cheeks
C said that as Bernie is so bright, responding BRILLIANTLY to acupuncture and generally a 'happy Bunny' she cant just PTS. Concious dentals are not an option. C said she wants to GA/Dental Bernie. I asked over and over again if this was fair and C said that in her professional opinion, which I respect, it was.

So Bernie is having the treatment now.

Please, those few people who have previously PM'd me about 'pushing things too far' with some of my Rabbits post your thoughts on the open Forum if you feel that strongly. I am acting on the advice of my Vet who is not on any 'crusade' but is a compassionate, experienced and Bunny Savvy professional.

I hope Bernie will be fine! If the vet says that it's worth doing, the I too would take the chance. God, I have even once acted against my vet's advice and continued treating eventhough the vet would have put to sleep (and I was right... she had another three months of good quality life :D).

If you are happy with your decision, then don't worry what anyone else is saying. You know your bunnies best, your vet knows you and your bunnies well too... That's the only two voices you should listen to. ;)

Lots of healing thoughts from here.

Vera

Sending loads of vibes for Bernie. I too would do the same thing. You SHOULD respect your vet and value their opinions. If you don't - you need to change your vet! We all know you only do what's best for your buns Jane x

Lots and lots of vibes for the lovely Bernie Jane :) and lots of strength and courage for you. :) xx

You and your vet know your bunnies best so you should trust your own instincts and do what feels right. I'm certain that you always make the best decision you can at any particular time.

Mega super vibes for you both Jane!!

I dont blame you for the lengths you go to.... I would do the same (and did with my abscess bun Tipsy)

At the end of the day, you know your buns best and they would let you know if they have already given up the fight. Untill then, you give them anything and everything available to help them survive.

You are an awesome bunny mum.

xxxx

Sending loads of vibes.

No way do you push things too far - you often talk about PTS when it seems like it might need to be thought about, Christobel has proved her judgement to be sound so many times on this issue - LB being a perfect example in the last week. You are the ones with ALL the information to hand. Like she says Bernie is bright - she should be given the chance. I can't see any argument against treatment, personally.

I have done this as well and Mischa is still here telling his tale. In my opinion, even if the vet is the best rabbit specialist in the world, he or she is not with the rabbit all the time. You are the one with her, you know if she is still fighting and still enjoying life.

(As for the vet with Mischa, I think she was a locum as she had never seen him before.)

Thanks for your support :)

I do trust C and Little Bill would have been PTS by now if I had ignored her advice this week.

Sending lots of vibes for Bernie. You and your vet are the only ones who can make an informed decision with all the facts; it saddens me to read that you feel the need to justify your actions to others. Let us know as soon as you hear anything.

Sending vibes x

I don't think it's fair to accuse someone of pushing things too far when they are relying on veterinary advice saying that they should not give up yet :? I would not let anybun go to the bridge if my vet suggested any sort of treatment or recommended 'wait and see' first. Who are we to argue with the opinion of a professional rabbit-savvy vet.

I can understand that it may appear that I 'dont want to let go' with regards to my Buns. But I really would never keep putting a Bun through treatment just because I could not bare to loose them. I honestly try to do what is best for them and I rely on C to advise me as to what that may be

xx

Sending you huge vibes for Bernie xxx and some for LB too even though he is on the mend!!!

You seem to do what is right by your buns, and I would ignore anyone who says otherwise.

aw sending loads of vibes for bernie, you'l know when the time is right and you a very experience rabbit owner jane, i know you have your bunnies wealthfair interest first. i really hope the op goes well.

I have no doubt in my mind at all that you do the best for your bunnies Jane or ,how can following vets advice be pushing too far??

Sending all the vibes I can muster and hoping Bernie will come through her dental ok.xx

I read this thread this morning and just sort of shook my head in disbelief.

Why? Because what right does anyone have to tell someone else what is best for their buns?

We ALL know our buns better than anyone else, so Jane, you know your HUGE crew better than anyone else knows your buns and you know what they can and can not take.

In addition to that, you also have one of the most awesome vets I've heard about on here. That is a formidable combination, and probably hard for those people who have vets who aren't as good, or who have super sensitive buns, to understand.

You do what you feel is best for them at any one time, which is all anyone can do. I'm not sure how anyone can disagree with that? It's a shame these people are not brave enough to say in public what they think and why, because it might help all of us understand more about our buns, their buns, the situations, etc (as in, not just in regards to your buns Jane).

I'm super jealous of your vet and know had mine been in the situations yours have been, mine would have had to have been let go, both because my vet does not have as much knowledge, but also some of mine would not cope with much of any intervention (I have one who shows early stasis signs if I feel low, lol, and if he has to see a vet he needs a lot of tempting round and bribery after else he won't eat or drink).

Like I said, all we can do is what we think is best for the rabbit in question at any given time. You do that (which you know in your heart, and in my eyes, I think that's clear on the forum), and that's all you need to do. That's all anyone can do.

Any news on Bernie yet? I hope she does ok with this :)

Lots of vibes for you and Bernie. I want to echo what other people have said and say that you must know your bunnies best and have the expertise of your vet to go on too. Ignore anyone who says otherwise - follow your own heart and judgement as you know what is right.

hope bernie is doing ok aand is home soon

take no notice of the negitive comments of others only you and your vet can see the buns a decided whats best for them
