'Harvest Festival' For Rescues ?

Jack's-Jane

Wise Old Thumper
I was thinking about my school days earlier (its an age thing ) and I was remembering the school Harvest Festival. We all used to bring in a small food gift to make up hampers for those in need locally.

This gave me the idea of us having a similar 'Harvest Festival For a Local Rescue' thread on RU.
Anyone wanting to take part can just put together a small hamper of goodies (Veg etc) for our local Rescue. We can decorate the hamper and post a pic of it on here before delivering it to the Rescue.

What do yous all think, is it do-able :?

I think it's a great idea but would probably only work for people who live close enough to a rescue to be able to hand-deliver the goods.

I think it's a lovely idea
The nearest rescue to me is Sue in Southampton....but she never seems to answer her phone though
I'll just turn up on her doorstep

that sounds like a lovely idea. We always used to have a harvest festival at school. I don't quite know where the goods went to in the end but I think it may have been an OAP home.

good idea!

could it be developed further? for example, if people made up little baskets of goodies, eg soaps etc or dried goodies, even sweets, you could hold a harvest fair and sell them off to raise funds.

i used to love doing harvest baskets when my daughter was in primary school. we did one for school and one for church. when my parents were well enough to socialise, i used to do baskets occasionally as raffle prizes for their 'local'.

schools tend not to do harvest nowadays as no-one wants the goodies! the school where i work does christmas hampers for the elderly but we focus on blankets and tinned food.

I dont really have a close rescue except RSPCA who I do loads of volutary work for anyway so just a thought with this but you could always order online with a supermarket and get them to deliver to the rescue (as long as the rescue know its coming so someone can be in of course)

What about if people don't have a rescue that close by, but would still like to help? Maybe a small hamper of things that aren't fresh, like toys, sample packs from hay experts, blankets etc :)

I mean, at Scunthorpe, we take in ANYTHING  ;)

Or like the Shoe Box appeal that they do for the kids at Christmas!

I would love to do this - I think my local one is BARC or Bradford ! x

I think its an excellent idea though I would rather post the goodies to say a rescue on here as I usually do a box up for Christmas for the Blue Cross. :)
