Should I get a second rabbit

I have just got a male rabbit (apparently 8 weeks old or so) from a pet shop. Just wondering, as he will be an outside rabbit in a hutch and run, whether I should bring in another rabbit for company. If so, how do I do this and do I chose another boy or a girl? Advise much appreciated.

:wave: Welcome, most of us have more than one rabbit on here. Rabbits are social animals and do like company but they can also live happily on their own but would need more contact with yourself.

There are some rescues on here who would be able to help you find a partner for your bunny. Quite often they have had their vaccinations and in some cased already neutered. Would advise you to get it sexed by the vet first and consider having him neutered when he is old enough too.

Normally a male/female bond works best but it is possible to bond two males. There are lots more people on here who can offer advice.

We need to see some photos.

:wave: We definitely need to see piccies.

As bunny babe says, get your bun properly sexed, vaccinated and neutured first (when old enough) and then have a look for a bunny friend from a rescue.

As well as you giving an unwanted bunny a home, the rescue will do some of the hard work of bonding for you;)

I don't know how old my rabbit is, the pet shop owner guessed about 8 weeks old. When should I go to the vet with him and have him neutered? Thanks for your advice, I want to be a good mum to little Tarka!

:shock::shock:
I would take him to the vet now, for a general health check and his Myximatosis vaccination, then VHD 2 weeks later.
He should be ready for netering in around 8 weeks time, some can be done as early as 12 weeks, it just depends how quickly his plums appear :lol:
Some vets will prefer to wait until he is 6 months old, in which case, search around for an exotics specialist, as they are more likely to be bunny-savvy :)

take him in a carrier with a blanket over the top,
They have to have 3 different vaccinations a year so they must go to the vets, my rabbit usually just freezes and doesn't move (which makes giving injctions nice and easy) and i give her half a hour to her self inside when we get back but they cope fine!

Make sure you find a bunny savvy vet though!
